US Military Struck a 'Major Plant' in Venezuela, Trump Asserted Without Providing Details.

Former President Donald Trump has claimed that American forces targeted a "significant facility" in the South American country last week. However, the former president offered no details on the precise purpose or site of the target, and officials have issued no further clarification from his camp.

Vague Comments Made During a Radio Interview

"US forces just eliminated – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the ships originate. Two nights ago, we knocked that out. So we targeted them decisively," Trump allegedly informed GOP supporter and businessman John Catsimatidis on Friday.

Possible Implications of a Confirmed Strike

If a US military action were to be verified, it would constitute the initial attack on Venezuelan soil since the US Department of Defense initiated a buildup of US strike forces in the region to interdict narco-trafficking operations that the former administration claims operate under the direction of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The original objective of the force deployment has evolved into a quarantine aimed at stopping the nation's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Administration Claims

Trump has for weeks stated that American military units are ready to widen the operations by striking targets inside Venezuela, a strategy that would theoretically require congressional approval.

A clip circulated on social media on 24 December purportedly showed an explosion said to be from an industrial zone in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the facility has not been independently verified.

An administration official reportedly told a media outlet that the former president was referring to a narco-trafficking site in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Situation

The Maduro government has issued no statement on the incident the former president referenced. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from within the country regarding it.

The buildup of US military in the region – a stance some have termed a naval quarantine – constitutes the largest naval operation of his time in office.

Administration officials have avoided from calling the operation as a full blockade, but have stated that about 15,000 troops are positioned across the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, including a carrier strike group, advanced fighter jets, and law enforcement vessels to implement existing economic sanctions.
